Web Prank Tries to Send Justin Bieber to North Korea

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 12:57 AM PDT

You can never be too careful with internet polls. Time magazine learned that the hard way when their “Time 100″ poll got completely wrecked by pranksters from the internet forum 4chan, and now something similar has happened to the Justin Bieber My World Contest.

In the contest, users were called to vote which country should Justin Bieber visit next. Currently, courtesy of the folks from 4chan, that country is North Korea.

Since most people in North Korea don’t even have (free) internet access, it’s obvious that the contest was hacked, but with only 21 hours left, it’s likely that North Korea will stay on top. Currently, North Korea has 552000 votes, followed by Israel with 546000 votes and Poland with 509000 votes.

Will Justin Bieber really go to North Korea? We doubt. The Canadian teen sensation should tread carefully in Internet waters, though, as he’s recently been the target of another 4chan attack. Who knows what they’re planning for him next?

Get a Diamond-Encrusted iPhone 4 for Just $20,000

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 10:10 PM PDT

We’ll take two, thanks!

These gaudy gadgets come unlocked “for worldwide use” and absolutely sparkling with 6.5 carats of VVS quality, F-color diamonds and a complimentary carrying case made of ostrich foot. The back of the device features a solid platinum and diamond version of the Apple logo.

You can order one now from jeweler/gadget-monger Stuart Hughes — but order quickly, as only 50 of these devices will be made.

This latest foray into luxury goods of indubitable opulence and questionable taste calls to mind a similarly bedecked iPad which surfaced in March. This device features 11.43 carats of hand-set, micro-pave diamonds and retails for a mere $19,999.

If diamonds alone aren’t your thing, you could also go for this gold-covered iPad, which we found back in May. Or, you could spring for the $3 million jewel-sprinkled, solid gold 3GS Stuart Hughes rolled out last fall.

As humble journalists, we find that the Stuart Hughes version of the iPhone 4 is just outside the realm of our summer toys fund; we can, however, recommend an excellent gadget for those who would have bling on a budget. It’s called a Bedazzler, and it’s iPhone and Android compatible. You’re welcome.

What do you think: Is this take on the iPhone 4 a bit much — in terms of aesthetics, price, or both?

Prince: “The Internet Is Over”

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 09:03 PM PDT

“I really believe in finding new ways to distribute my music,” pop legend Prince told the Daily Mirror in an exclusive interview today.

Puzzling, then, that the musical icon also said he deplores online and other digital means of music distribution.

“The Internet’s completely over,” he said. “I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it, and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”

Prince’s famous and longstanding battle against the web gained steam in 2007, when Prince declared his intention to file lawsuits against YouTube, eBay and the Pirate Bay for users’ appropriation of his music. He’s banned such sites from using his music, and he’s also refused to work with legal, legitimate outlets such as eMusic and iTunes.

And don’t try to find his official site; it’s been shut down, as well.

“The Internet’s like MTV,” the star said to the Mirror’s correspondent. “At one time, MTV was hip, and suddenly it became outdated.”

“Suddenly,” a.k.a. around the time the Internet started taking off, perhaps?

Not only is Prince down on the web; he also is decidedly not a fan of consumer electronics. “All these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can’t be good for you.”

Prince’s new album, 20TEN, will be released as a CD to Mirror readers and the readers of various other print publications in Europe. It might be distributed via Warner Bros. in the U.S. This will be the artist’s twenty-seventh release.

Clearly, we at Mashable take a radically different view, both about the Internet and about the utility and integrity of web-based music distribution models. We’re of the opinion that musicians need more (and better) online tools, not fewer.

Keeping in mind Prince’s amazing contributions to music’s past, we’re not sure he’s in touch with its present or accurately forecasting its future. So-called experts have been predicting the death of the Internet at least since 1995, and we’ve yet to see anything come of these proclamations of doom.

What do you think? Is Prince missing out on something by withdrawing himself from the web? Or could he be correct; is the Internet just a fad, after all?

U.S. Will Invest $2 Billion in Solar Power

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 07:58 PM PDT

Over the weekend, President Obama announced the Department of Energy would be giving almost $2 billion in conditional funding to two solar energy companies, Abengoa Solar and Abound Solar Manufacturing.

Money will come from the $863 billion economic stimulus package. Projects funded by this move are expected to create more than 5,000 construction and permanent jobs.

One of these initiatives is the Solana project, which Abengoa says will be the largest concentrating solar power plant in the world when it’s completed. The Arizona-based plant will produce enough energy to power 70,000 households and will save the environment from about 475,000 tons of CO2 each year. Most of the development and permitting for Solana is already complete, and the project has a green light from the Department of Energy (DOE), as well.

“These are just two of the many clean energy investments in the Recovery Act,” the President said. “Already, I've seen the payoff from these investments. I've seen once-shuttered factories humming with new workers who are building solar panels and wind turbines; rolling up their sleeves to help America win the race for the clean energy economy.”

Here’s the entirety of President Obama’s address on YouTube:

Solar power has become an increasingly interesting alternative for providing energy for all kinds of purposes, from our homes to our gadgets, from airplanes to spaceships.

Green and clean tech in general have been surfacing as exciting areas of investment recently; Google recently invested $38 million in wind farms.

What do you think: Is clean energy a topic that interests you? Do you think more people should be investing in and working on greener sources of power? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Create Digital Tribute Sites for Important Events

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 04:48 PM PDT

Mashable's Spark of Genius series highlights a unique feature of startups. If you would like to have your startup considered for inclusion, see details here. The series is made possible by Microsoft BizSpark.

Name: Your Tribute

Quick Pitch: Your Tribute helps you celebrate life's significant events online.

Genius Idea: Your Tribute offers free hosting and customized design templates for those who would like to create a commemorative website quickly and effortlessly. It’s perfect for those who are savvy enough to upload digital photos or send e-invitations but don’t want to expend the effort to learn a platform like WordPress.

Your Tribute offers customized templates for six different event types: anniversaries, graduations, weddings, births, birthdays and memorials. Anyone can create a free site with separate tabs for a story, guestbook, virtual gifts, photos and videos, an event calendar and additional “notes” pages. You can also pull address book information from your e-mail accounts and social networks and send online invitations with Facebook integration.

There is, of course, a premium option (the site has to make money somehow). For a one-time fee of $50, anyone who visits the page can upload unlimited, full-size photos and videos, and Your Tribute guarantees that the site will remain online “for life.” We may design tribute or event pages to serve a temporary purpose, but it might be nice for a child to be able to visit his site to read guestbook comments and browse photos when he’s older (it’s also amusing to think how archaic the site would look in 20 years — remember GeoCities?).

So while we aren’t necessarily recommending Your Tribute as the next must-have tool for our digitally fluent readers, we think it’s certainly a resource you could recommend to your mother, for example, when she tells you she wants to create a website to celebrate your son’s graduation. For those who want to create pages for weddings specifically, we would instead recommend mywedding.com or The Knot’s wedding web page builder; the former allows you to order matching wedding invitations from premiere stationary companies, while the latter allows users to share their gift registries, among other, more customizable options.

What do you think of Your Tribute? Would you recommend the platform to create a quick commemorative site, or would you suggest something else?

LeBron James is Twitter’s Latest Sponsored Trending Topic

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 02:27 PM PDT

The NBA appears to be the latest big brand trying out Twitter's new "promoted trends" feature that lets a company bump a given topic onto Twitter's trending topic list.

The league has promoted the term "LeBron James," meaning when users click on the basketball superstar's name (which is accompanied by a “promoted” icon), they'll see both tweets about him from regular Twitter users and a promoted tweet from the NBA. The promoted tweet directs users to a special section of NBA.com that has been setup to cover free agency.

For those that have been following the NBA offseason, you'll recognize how timely a move that is by the organization. With James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and some of the league's other biggest stars all exploring their options for where they’ll play next season and beyond, there's already a ton of conversation happening organically as news leaks about where players are likely to end up.

By sponsoring the trending topic, the NBA is hoping to direct some of that interest to their own website as opposed to other news organizations. We think that makes a lot of sense, though ultimately the biggest prize (in terms of traffic) will probably go to the site that is first to break the news of James' (and the other stars) decision.

Other companies experimenting with promoted trends include Pixar (for Toy Story 3) and Coca-Cola.

5 Social Media Trends to Watch Right Now

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 12:56 PM PDT

This post originally appeared on the American Express OPEN Forum, where Mashable regularly contributes articles about leveraging social media and technology in small business.

With social media itself an exponentially growing trend that’s here to stay, many companies both small and large are keeping tabs on new social technologies as they emerge. With new sites, services, apps and practices that help businesses connect more directly with customers coming online at a rapid pace, it’s often helpful to zoom out a bit and keep an eye on upcoming trends on the cusp or just over the horizon.

Whether or not particular individual services succeed, the following trends are likely to stick around in the near-term future. Some may not be immediately relevant to your company or industry, but being aware of oncoming movements in the social media landscape can help keep you and your business out ahead of the curve when a new trend holds promise for your organization’s growth.

1. Location, Location, Location

It’s always been true of real estate, but increasingly so it’s true of almost everything online. Sites like Twitter now allow you to attach location information about where a tweet is sent from, and Facebook has announced intentions to support location information as well — even if they don’t quite know what that will entail just yet.

In the mobile space, a number of standalone apps exist primarily to let users “check in” and broadcast their current location to their friends. From Foursquare to Gowalla, new startups are racing to amass “location mindshare” and be the world’s go-to application for sharing your whereabouts. Established players such as Google are also getting into the game with services like Google Latitude, which allows your location to be updated automatically if you’re comfortable with that level of privacy setting.

Overall, the focus on location is great news for a lot of small businesses, many of whom have vested interest in catering to a local clientele. Even Yelp, one of the gold standards of local recommendations, has added a checkin feature similar to what apps such as Foursquare and Gowalla provide.

2. Group Buying

Group buying is a system in which consumers can “gang up” to get deals or discounts on services or products. The focus here too is fairly local, with a number of sites such as Groupon and LivingSocial offering daily deals to users in specific cities. If enough users sign on for that day’s deal, everyone gets to participate; conversely if the minimum number of signups isn’t met, no one gets a chance to take advantage of the deal.

Not too long ago we took a look at the group buying trend through the lens of whether or not small businesses should care yet. Essentially it’s opportunity but not obligation — nevertheless, particularly for local retail establishments it’s probably a great development to keep an eye on. Think of it as an opportunity to both reward your most loyal customers as well as attract new clientele who may discover you through a daily deal.

3. Mobile Ads

Dovetailing with the location trend, advertisers are finally able to take advantage of mobile ad platforms that let them reach consumers at critical junctures, such as the moment just before they make an in-store purchase. Being able to reach a customer on the go or near the point of sale can be a very powerful mechanism for brands looking to connect with potential audiences.

Less than a year ago, Google acquired AdMob, a mobile ad platform large enough to attract scrutiny from the FTC over the deal — which was eventually approved at the end of May. Apple’s new iAd platform brings new swagger to the playing field, with an ambitious goal of improving the mobile ad experience to the end user by avoiding making them leave whatever app experience they are currently in.

With Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone OS (now simply dubbed iOS) two of the most dominant smartphone operating systems in terms of mindshare and increasingly install base, the mobile advertising space is set for a serious jolt in the near future.

4. Mobile Payments

Yet another trend in the naturally social world of mobile is the ability to both make and take payments right from the phone. A startup dubbed Square, a project of one of Twitter’s founders Jack Dorsey, has developed a dongle that attaches to the iPhone’s headphone jack that allows credit card transactions to be processed right on the spot.

Existing major players in the finance space such as Visa are getting into the game too, with stated intentions to continue pushing forward aggressively in the mobile payment arena. PayPal too has a popular mobile payments app for the iPhone, Android and BlackBerry platforms.

And while all of the above is just starting to trend in the United States, the developing world has been driving rapid adoption of mobile payment services for some time already. Add to all that the ability to make microtransaction purchases within a wide variety of mobile applications beyond specifically payment-oriented apps, and we’ve got an emerging ecosystem small businesses are going to want to pay close attention to.

5. Having a Social Media Policy

As more and more businesses dive head-first into the raging waters of social media, having an official company policy surrounding individual tools and services is becoming increasingly more commonplace. Whether it’s a simple one-page set of guidelines or full-blown documentation regarding what is and is not acceptable employee behavior surrounding social media, that information is something many companies are going to want to provide to existing staff as well as new employees and contractors coming on board.

Official social media policies may vary as widely as company cultures do, but no matter what the nature of your business, it might be good practice to consider if you’re wading into social media waters in any strategic manner. Many of the guidelines might sound like common sense, from “exercise good judgment” to “be responsible,” but those sentiments can still be powerful reminders to staff, along with any more concrete rules about what is acceptable especially when representing the company via social media.

LG to Launch Android-Powered Tablet

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 12:09 PM PDT

Yet another electronics manufacturer has announced plans to launch a tablet computer powered by Google's Android operating system: LG. According to The Wall Street Journal, the device will launch in the fourth quarter of this year, though no other details were immediately available.

Seemingly everyone is now racing to get into the tablet game in the wake of iPad (and its strong early sales numbers) and a computer market that some analysts see shifting dramatically over the next few years.

Just last week saw the introduction of the Cisco Cius, which runs on Android, with other recent headlines suggesting we'll soon see tablets from HP (running on webOS) and RIM, in addition to Windows 7-powered tablets (LG showed one off last month).

Also looming large in the tablet competition is the data deals that manufacturers strike with wireless carriers. Back in May, Google was said to be bringing a tablet to market with Verizon Wireless, though no official announcement has yet materialized.

In any event, it appears the second half of this year will be when we start to find out if there’s going to be some viable competition for the iPad. Stay tuned.

10 Fun Facebook Accessories

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 09:40 AM PDT

The Internet’s love affair with Facebook might hit a rough patch from time to time, but there’s no denying that it’s the social networking giant that keeps us connected to everyone and everything we like in one easy online platform.

So, to celebrate all things FB, we’ve rounded up a selection of Facebook-themed real-life products, from witty tees to cool stationery (because someone is still sending snail mail) that you can nab now to show your love for online social networking in the offline world.

1. Facebook Reminder Birthday Card

You probably shouldn’t send this to your significant other (unless they have a great sense of humor), but you can’t beat this witty birthday greeting card, especially for a fellow social networking enthusiast. This high quality card pokes fun at Facebook’s handy highlighting of forthcoming birthdays.

Cost: $3.50

2. Bonaroo Facebook/Movie T-Shirts

We love these tees that offer something different from the “you like this” message, which is so last year. Bonaroo has taken characters from popular movies and imagined their “likes.” The example above is from The Goonies, but over on the site you’ll find fun with Predator, Back to the Future, Anchorman and more.

Cost: £12.99 (approx $19.50)

3. Facebook Status Mug

No doubt we’ve all commented on our need for, or love of, caffeine in the Facebook status bar at one time or another, making this mug a great option for coffee-loving Facebookers.

Cost: From $13.95

4. Facebook Like and Dislike Stamps

Just genius, we love these Like and Dislike stamps that bring Facebook feelings into the real world. You can buy the stamps separately or as a set, with the guys behind the design stating: “The Like/Dislike set combines everything you need to silently judge everything that surrounds you with nothing more than a flick of your wrist.”

Cost: From £9.99 (approx $15)

5. Facebook Ruined My Life Watch

You have to rock a certain type of style to pull off this Facebook-blue, talking-point timepiece with the pithy message “Facebook ruined my life.” Strap it on as you bemoan the hours you’ve lost thanks to the addictive nature of social networking (Or maybe Facebook did actually ruin your life?). Put your sob stories in the comments box below.

Cost: $7.99

6. Facebook Wall Decal

Although we’re not convinced most people would want it decorating their living room walls, we suppose this decal could add some Facebook fun to your office. You can personalize the word shown above the “You like this” text, and share your preference for a company, brand, person or website (hint, hint) with everyone.

Cost: $13.99 for one word, but custom orders are also available

7. Personalized Facebook Stationery

We adore this stationery set with its clean, Facebook-esque design that comprises 14 personalized cards and envelopes. For special missives, you can go old school and actually send a note via snail mail, rather than write on someone’s wall, but still keep that Facebook look and feel.

Cost: $10

8. Book of Fame

You can personalize this blank hardback notebook with your — and any other Facebook friends who boast a witty turn of phrase — status updates, which are printed randomly on the bottom of the inside pages, making it unique to you.

Cost: $18

9. Facebook Mousepad

Promising a “precise and consistent glide,” this mousepad is just what you’d expect from the Meninos team — a witty take on a techie topic. Asking “what’s on your mousepad?” the Facebook wall icons are lovingly recreated for an FB-themed accessory any fan would be happy to have.

10. Anti-Farmville T-Shirt

Tell it like it is with this anti-Farmville tee.

Cost: $20.25 from MySoti

David Beckham Jumps onto Yahoo Answers

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 09:39 AM PDT

Football star David Beckham is set to answer questions from fans using Yahoo Answers, part of his new role as the company's "Global Sports Ambassador" -– a deal that also requires Beckham to contribute commentary to Yahoo Sports during the World Cup.

The live Q&A event takes place on July 14; until then, users are encouraged to ask their questions over on Yahoo Answers, where some 250+ answers to the query "what would you ask and why?" have already been submitted.

The most interesting part, perhaps, is that the selected questions will come from 20 different countries. The fans that came up with the questions will ask them over live video via Cisco TelePresence. Additional questions can be submitted during the live event via Yahoo Mail, Beckham's Facebook Page and Twitter.

It would make sense for Yahoo to continue to add such events to Answers -– it's one of their more successful social offerings. Meanwhile, YouTube has been ramping up its own live video offerings, with recent Q&A style events featuring White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and a BP executive responding to questions about the oil spill and cleanup efforts.

Google Employees Explain What It’s Like Working at Google

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 05:30 AM PDT

There’s an interesting thread today over at social news site Reddit, in which Google employees are asked to describe their experiences working for the Internet giant.

The replies are anonymous, and should thus be taken with a grain of salt. But some seem genuine, revealing some fascinating tidbits about Google’s corporate culture, strategy and the day-to-day life of a Google employee. The experiences are vastly positive, but some of them describe the downsides of being a Googler, too.

Here are some interesting snippets from the thread:

CinoBoo: “I’ve been there for about 5 years. You can read about the good parts anywhere, so I’ll try to offer a counterpoint based on having worked at other software companies.

A common problem is that it’s easy to become spoiled by all the perks. Several offices have developed distinct cultures of entitlement, and people whine about the quality of the fudge on the free brownies. It’s embarrassing to be around people who’ve become like spoiled children.

An engineering-specific problem there is that there’s a lot of support for operations — that is, lots of people whose job it is to keep the systems running. Engineers don’t habitually carry pagers and are on-call relatively infrequently. The plus side is that they can focus on development, get adequate sleep, and be more productive. The downside is that they can easily lose touch with what’s really going on in the data centers and sometimes even their customers. It’s a trade-off. Google is at least aware of it and uses incentive programs to entice engineers to spend time in ops roles.

Last, the company is big into ‘generating luck,’ which means trying a whole bunch of stuff in the hopes that a few efforts will pay off.”

GoogleEmployee22k: “Google is a great place to work. These are the things I like about my job:

1) Everyone is super smart
2) 18 different cafes
3) Free Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
4) The food is gourmet quality (e.g. omelet bar, chefs that make custom sandwiches for you, sashimi, free drinks 24/7, free snacks of all sorts 24/7.
5) The 7 person conference bicycles
6) Every Friday, Larry, Sergei, or Eric takes questions from us (in person), and we get free beer (e.g. Downtown Brown)”

solyanik: “Management institute is awful. A typical manager has 50-100 employees, so even if they meet with their reports once a month for 30 minutes, that’s about 2 weeks worth of almost constant 1:1s per month (allowing just a bit of time for stretching in between :-) ). That’s not a lot of time for interaction. As a result, managers aren’t empwered [sic] to participate in technical decision, they don’t have very much vote in performance reviews (these are done by committee), and not even hiring (which is also done by committee). I’ve asked older Googlers what the managers did there, and they universally said “I don’t know”. Almost all managerial decisions that I witnessed at Google (mostly around resourcing the new projects) were not great, and the only way I could explain them was by some sort of internal political struggles between different players in the management game. The good thing was that, as I said above, they don’t have very much role in day to day operations of the company. But if you LIKE being a technical manager, if that’s how you see your career, Google is definitely not for you.”

The Apple Effect: Ads That Have Launched Music Careers [VIDEOS]

Posted: 05 Jul 2010 05:28 AM PDT

Apple has propelled many bands and artists up the charts simply by featuring their tunes in its commercials.

Summed up nicely in the witty words of BuzzFeed writer Taylor Magenheim: “Apple has proven that every time an iPod is created, an indie band gets their wings.”

With an interest in the “Apple effect” on a song, we took a look at five great examples of artists being carefully chosen from (relative) obscurity by Apple’s ad pros. Which one made the biggest impression on you? Share your thoughts in the comments!

1. “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” by Jet – iPod, 2003/2004

Brash Aussie rockers Jet were one of the first acts to benefit from Apple ad inclusion, with their track “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” The tune provided the audio for one of Apple’s infamous (and improbable — how do those ear buds stay in?) dancing-silhouettes-with-iPods commercials.

On the back of the exposure, the band sold 3.5 million copies of their album Get Born, an astounding amount for a little-known band from Down Under, and the song has since been used in movies, TV shows and even computer games, including the Rock Band and Guitar Hero franchises.

2. “1234″ by Feist – iPod Nano, 2007

Canadian singer-songwriter Feist (or “Leslie” as her mom is more likely to call her) was chosen as the face of the nano. It was her sparkly blue jumpsuited moves and catchy vocals that helped introduce the player’s new form factor to the wider world. Likewise, the ad launched her big-time career.

After it was aired, nearly half a million people hit Google to find out what the song was. YouTube plays of the video jumped more than 1,000% compared to the previous month, and digital sales of the song doubled.

3. “Music is My Hot, Hot Sex” by CSS – iPod Touch, 2007

In one of our favorite Apple anecdotes, 18 year-old British student Nick Haley created a homemade fan-ad for the iPod touch using then little-known Brazilian group CSS’s song “Music is My Hot, Hot Sex.” Apple execs saw the ad, liked it, and subsequently flew Haley out to the States to work with their ad agency on making an official version of the commercial (below) which stayed remarkably similar to the original (above.)

You know the drill by now — after the ad was aired, searches for “iPod touch ad music” and “music is my boyfriend” went through the roof. CSS sold a boatload of singles and Apple had another successful ad on its hands. It’s interesting to note that the use of exactly the same track a year earlier in a Zune ad did not have the same effect.

4. “New Soul” by Yael Naim – MacBook Air, 2008

When Israeli artist Yael Naim wrote and recorded this track in her Parisian apartment, she likely had no idea of the success it would later see as the soundtrack of the MacBook Air’s debut to the consumer masses. In fact, rumor has it that Steve Jobs himself chose the song that sunnily accompanied the much-parodied envelope-themed ad.

Because of the ad’s success, Naim’s album was released early in the U.S. in the hopes of capitalizing on the exposure. She soon became the first Israeli solo artist to have a top ten hit, and the song reached the dizzying height of number seven on the Billboard Hit 100.

5. “Shut Up and Let Me Go” by The Ting Tings – iPod, 2008

Quirky British pop duo The Ting Tings were already enjoying U.K. success when Apple picked “Shut Up and Let Me Go” as the song for a next-gen “dancing silhouettes” iPod advert.

It gave the band its U.S. break and got them to number one on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Songs chart after a hasty release of the single, which, in the words of the band, was not actually the best from their album, We Started Nothing. “We don’t even see that as our strongest song,” a confident Ting Ting-er told USA Today. “We love that song, but we have bigger songs on the album which people probably haven’t even heard yet.”

BONUS: “Fly Me Away” by Annie Little – Amazon Kindle, 2010

Just to show that Apple isn’t the only consumer electronics/music company that can give artists a friendly career boost, here’s Annie Little in the cool stop motion Kindle advert that won the Amazon and audience vote in a recent video contest and is currently airing on national TV.

The song has gone down so well in fact, that Little has since released an EP (an Amazon exclusive, of course) with this tune and two others, suggesting that while Apple has traditionally been seen as the musical kingmaker, perhaps there’s room in the market for other influencers.
